Rev Dr ANDREW FRANCIS SJ, Principal

We are in the threshold of our 175 year celebrations. The college is gearing up for the eventful year. Admissions this year was quite satisfactory. The Arts and Science colleges are getting back their original charm. The College annual Sports Meet went on very well. Fr Francis Vazhapilly, the veteran Vice Principal, who enforced discipline and promoted sports and games was the chief guest. The erstwhile Physical Director Mr Kasi, who served for more than 33 years, was the Guest of honour. Mr A Chandrasekaran our volleyball player who is now the Asst. Director of Directorate of Enforcement was the Special Invitee. On the same day in the morning, Fr Francis Vazhapilly and Mr Kasi laid the foundation stone for the Multipurpose Gymnasium and 50 Bedded Sports Hostel. The estimate of the project is projected to be a little more than Rs 5 crores. The site for the building is the coconut grove (on the way to the New Hostel). The UGC has sanctioned a grant of Rs 1.70 crores. Soon we will start the construction of additional floor in the Museum building for which the UGC gives the grant of Rs 1.40 crores from the Heritage fund and the total estimate comes to Rs 2 crores. We hope to complete these two projects before July 2018.

Taking into consideration our past performance, NAAC has given a special privilege of seven year validity of the previous assessment, and hence we need to go for the IV cycle of assessment only in 2019. The college is preparing itself to get a good ranking in NIRF this year. We are also participating in the Swachata ranking.

I am happy that the U S Alumni chapter went on very well having Mr Napolean, former Central minister, as the chief guest. Recently the MCA 1993-96 Batch visited the campus for their reunion. Last year the Alumni association opened a Clinical Lab in the campus where students and others can do any type of test at a very nominal rate.

Next year is the 175th year. A committee is formed to plan the celebrations. There are two important things we want to focus as part of the celebrations. One is, to create a new institution to mark the 175 years and the other is to have a mega gathering of the alumni- including the alumni who are in foreign countries.

Please do send us your suggestions for a meaningful celebration of 175 years.

With warm regards,
Rev Dr F Andrew SJ
