5(TN) NU National Cadet Corps

The new unit raising ceremony of St,Joseph's College, Trichy was inaugurated on 29th April, 2011, in Sail Auditorium, at 3.pm by Lt.Col. A.K. Dutt, Training Officer, NCC Group HQ, Puducherry and in the presence of Principal, Rev. Dr. A.Sebastian Anand Sj, Our Alumnus Cdr.M.Anand, the Commanding Officer of 5(TN) NU NCC, Dr.V.Bastin Jerome, the Care Taker of 5(TN) NU NCC, St.Joseph's College, NCC Officers S/O J.Rajarajan, 17th Troop NU NCC, St.Joseph's College Hr. Sec. School, Trichy and Flying Officer Prof.Praveen, NCC Chief Officer Mr.Kamatchi, Chief Superintendent Mr.Jeyaraman, Former NCC Chief Officer, Mr.Pushparaj, PA Staff Mr.Srinivasan and about 100 NCC Cadets.

Tree Plantation campaign @ SJC:

Tree Plantation campaign was organized by our unit cadets on 11th of July 2011 in remembrance of World Population Day in our college campus. Rev.Br.S.Xavier Arockiasamy SJ, The Bursar of our college was the chief guest. He narrated the importance of environment and cleanliness to our cadets. Our cadets enthusiastically participated and promised that they would take care of the plants. Our college management appreciated the tremendous effort and concern on environmental issues.

Independence Day Participation:

Our newly raised unit participated in the Independence Day March Past Parade in our campus on 15th August 2011. Our cadets gratefully acknowledged and paid homage to our forefathers, military personnel, and leaders who shed their blood and sacrificed their lives for our joy and happiness today. Dr.V.Bastin Jerome, Care Taker, proposed a vote of Thanks. The performance of our cadets during the parade was outstanding. The College Management appreciated Dr.V.Bastin Jerome, the Care Taker and the cadets for the strenuous efforts shown on that day.

Tree Plantation - Environmental Awareness Campaign @ Aarchampatti Village

In view of World Ozone Day and Green Consumer Day, the 5(TN) Naval Unit NCC and Citizen Consumer Club in collaboration with Extension Department of St.Joseph's College jointly organised a "Tree Plantation Awareness and Tree Plantation Campaign" at Aarchampatti, Panchayat Union Middle School at Aarchampatti on 3rd October 2011 at 3.pm.

The welcome address was delivered by Mr.P.Mani, Co-ordinator, Shepherd Extn Dept. The Chief Guest of the day was Rev.Dr.M.Arockiasamy Xavier SJ, Vice Principal, St.Joseph's College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli. The special key note address was delivered by Mrs. Isabella Rani, Headmistress, P.U Middle School, Aarchampatti. Special address was delivered by Dr.S.Joseph Xavier, Co-ordinator, Consumer Club and a Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.V.Bastin Jerome, Care Taker, 5(TN) NU NCC, St.Joseph's College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli - 2.

10 trees were planted near the school and on the public road side of Aarchampatti and Tree saplings were distributed freely to 50 selected villagers with the offer of volunteers in preserving the environment. The entire programme was meticulously arranged by Cadets of 5(TN) NU NCC and Members of Consumer Club, St.Joseph's College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli - 2. In future, we have a plan to conduct Eye Check-up camp and Haemoglobin check-up programmes.
