Profile of the Department


The Statistics Department was started in 1978, in which year the autonomy was granted to our College. Our department became a PG Department in 1999. Our department got recognition as a Research Department by the Bharathidasan University in the same year.

Most of our staff members possess Ph.D and publish many papers regularly. Many of our faculty publish books and serve as resource persons in national level Seminars and Workshops. We also offer consultancy services for the research scholars and industrialists.

Some of our staff members shared the college-level administrative responsibilities, like the Vice principal and Dean and IQAC co-ordinator.

Objectives of the Department

  • To produce high-caliber graduates in Statistics to effectively handle various statistical problems.
  • To provide strong foundation and motivation for doing research.
  • To train our graduates in Statistical Software for doing statistical surveys and scientific analysis for Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Organizations.

Uniqueness, Thrust and Specialty of our Courses:

B.stat Programme:

  • Inclusion of the subjects like Actuarial Statistics and Stochastic Processes.
  • Thrust is given for applying Statistics for solving real life problems using Statistical Software.

M. Phil Programme:

  • Teaching of the subjects like Multivariate Analysis, Advanced Statistical Inference and Quality Control Techniques.
  • Adequate training is provided in preparing quality teaching materials and handling classes

Vision of the Department:

To form competent, committed and ethical statistical professionals, who will serve the society.

Mission of the Department:

  • To provide a conducive learning environment. To utilize the expertise of our alumni for the betterment of current students. To give special thrust to contemporary research topics in Statistics.

Ph. D Programme:

  • To motivate research scholars to take up research work in Population Studies, Big Data Analytics so as to solve the contemporary problems.

Achievements of the Department

  • Seven Books were published.[BASIC Primer, FORTRAN Primer, Pascal Made Easy, COBOL in a Nutshell, C Primer, Java Programming, VC#.NET ]
  • An MoU was signed with Shakunthala Nursing College. As per this MoU, we will provide training in Statistical Analysis to their students.They will assist our Shepherd Programme in organizing medical camps.
  • More than one Minor projects, financed by UGC, were carried out by our staff Members.

E-Content developed:

  • PPTs were prepared for effectively teaching difficult Concepts.
  • Web-enabled Class Assignments: M.Phil Scholars are instructed to prepare assignments on the current research works undertaken in various areas of Statistics by browsing the Internet.
