The Department of Hindi has a rich history spanning over eight decades. Established in 1944, the department has been a cornerstone of Hindi language education in the region. The department has been led by several esteemed professors, including Messrs. A. Gopalan, R.H. Sundaresan, and M. Aloysious Money. Mr. K.S. Pranatharthiharan served as the Head of Department from 1988 to 2017 and currently, Dr. Sreedevi. S leads the department. The college was granted autonomous status in 1978, introducing the +2 system. The Hindi Department offers undergraduate programs, with students from all departments required to study Hindi as a Part I language. The department has consistently achieved high pass percentages, ranging from 98% to 99% annually. The Hindi Association organizes various events, including Hindi Week, inter-collegiate competitions, and cultural activities. The association has also launched a magazine, "SAGAR," and a YouTube channel to showcase students' talents. The department boasts a strong alumni network, with several notable individuals occupying prestigious positions in various organizations. These include Prof. T.P. Vanamamalai who studied Hindi in our college in 1947, worked in Jamal Mohammed College, Tiruchirappalli and retired as the HOD of the Hindi Department. Mr. S. Murali who studied in our college during 1971-1976 worked with IOB, Tanjore. Mr. Srinivasa Raghavan and Mr. Jackson Joseph joined the Bank of Baroda and the LIC respectively. The Department of Hindi has a proud legacy of academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community engagement.
